A small Nairobi team with a long memory for other people's mistakes
Kenya Software Ltd has been building software since 2019. We started because too many good Kenyan businesses were being sold systems they could not maintain, by teams that disappeared at handover.
Our story
Built around handover, not lock-in
The pattern was always the same. A company would commission a system, pay for it twice over in change requests, and end up with something only the original vendor could touch. When that vendor moved on, the software quietly rotted — and the business went back to spreadsheets.
We build the opposite way. Scope is agreed in writing and priced before the expensive work starts. The stack is deliberately unremarkable, so your next hire recognises it on day one. Repositories, cloud accounts and domains are in your name from the first commit, and documentation ships with the code rather than after it.
That leaves us competing on the quality of the work rather than on how hard we are to replace — which is the only arrangement that stays honest over a long engagement.

What we commit to, in writing
These appear in our contracts, not just on this page.
You own everything
Source code, infrastructure accounts, domains and documentation are yours from the first commit. No hostage clauses, no proprietary runtime you can only license from us.
Estimates you can budget against
We scope in a paid discovery sprint and quote a fixed range for the work. When something changes, you hear about it in the same week — not in the final invoice.
Built for local conditions
Intermittent connectivity, mid-range Android devices, mobile money and cross-border payments are the default assumptions here, not an afterthought.
Small senior teams
The engineers in the kickoff call are the engineers who write the code. No pyramid of juniors appearing once the contract is signed.

Our office is in Westlands, Nairobi. Most of our clients are in Kenya, with ongoing work across East Africa and remote engagements in Europe and North America. East Africa Time overlaps comfortably with both, so calls rarely need to be anyone's early morning.
